1 - Introduction to Power Point Presentations: Design Tips (Running Time: 11:43)
In this introductory lesson, Debbie explains how PowerPoint is used and provides many good design tips to make your presentations
audience-friendly. She demonstrates good, bad, and ugly design techniques and discusses how to avoid the latter two.
2 - The Power Point Interface: Menus, Toolbars, Task Pane (Running Time: 15:09)
Debbie takes you on a tour of the PowerPoint application window and shows you some tricks to customize the interface to work best for
you. You will get a look into the menus, toolbars, and various panes in the window, and learn how to open and close them as needed.

It's important to realize that there will be times when you'll need or want to find out how to perform a certain task in PowerPoint on
your own. In this lesson, Debbie shows you how to find the help you need, from using the Office Assistant to accessing the new, improved Microsoft Online Help database.
4 - Power Point Views and Resizing Panes, Zoom (Running Time: 8:56)
Here you will learn to look at the PowerPoint application different ways using the View menu. You will see how to zoom in on a slide using the Zoom dropdown menu on the toolbar, and to resize the panes in the application window. We'll look at the Slide and Outline panes and discuss how to use them to help you design and modify a presentation.
5 - Using Slide Layouts (Running Time: 2:59)
This lesson will introduce you to the Slide Layout task pane. Debbie shows you the basics of using text layouts and how to change a slide's layout. She gives you a quick preview of other layouts available in PowerPoint 2003.
6 - Adding Text and Bulleted Lists (Running Time: 13:44)
In this lesson, you will begin creating your first presentation by adding text to a slide. You will learn how to add a text box and how to move, resize, and delete text boxes and placeholders. Debbie also shows you how to add and format bullets in a bulleted list placeholder.
7 - Formatting Text and Spell Check (Running Time: 9:53)
Debbie shows you how to format text in textboxes and placeholders on a slide by selecting the text box border. She demonstrates changing the font, font style, font size, and font color using the formatting toolbar buttons. She identifies words not included in the Office dictionary, and shows how to quickly and easily correct typos and misspelled words.
8 - Adding Media: Pictures, Clip Art, and Word Art (Running Time: 9:42)
In this lesson, Debbie introduces you to multimedia in PowerPoint. She shows you how to use the Insert menu to add pictures saved on the hard drive and Clip Art from the Microsoft Clip Art Gallery. You will see how to use the Clip Art task pane to search for images to add to your slide show. Then we'll add some exciting Word Art text to your presentation, and change the style and formatting using the Word Art toolbar.
9 - Adding Backgrounds (Running Time: 6:40)
Here we will make our presentation more colorful by adding a background design to our slides. Debbie will show you how to add background color, textures, patterns, and gradients. She will review design strategies for making text easy to read on a background. We'll discuss the advantages in using "Apply to All".
10 - Adding a New Slide and an Introduction to the Slide Sorter (Running Time: 3:49)
Debbie will demonstrate adding a second slide to the presentation and discuss the layout of the new slide. We'll take our first look at the Slide Sorter view and use it to change the order of slides, add slides, and delete slides from the presentation.
11 - Saving and Naming Your Presentation (Running Time: 2:18)
In this lesson, Debbie will walk you through the steps to save the presentation in a designated place on the hard drive. She discusses strategies for naming the file appropriately for the slide show's topic so it will be easy to find and reopen the presentation later. We'll see how the file name is shown in the title bar of the PowerPoint application window.
12 - Opening a Saved Presentation (Running Time: 2:36)
After our presentation has been safely saved on the hard drive, we'll reopen it to continue our work. Debbie will show you PowerPoint's helpful shortcut features in the task pane and file menu to make it easy for you to find and reopen a recently saved file.
13 - Right-Click Tricks and Keyboard Shortcuts (Running Time: 5:13)
This lesson is for all of the keyboard fans, but also for those of you who like using shortcuts to quickly perform an action. Debbie shows you how to find the keyboard shortcuts for yourself, and how right-clicking in different areas of the window brings up different shortcut menus with options relevant to the object or area where your mouse pointer is located.
14 - Adding and Formatting Tables (Running Time: 6:37)
Here we will add a table to display data neatly on a slide. Debbie will show you more than one way to insert a table with a specified number of rows and columns. You'll learn how to add data to the table, and format the table's fonts and colors. You'll see how to resize the table and its column widths.
15 - Using the Drawing Tools (Running Time: 9:13)
Debbie introduces you to the Drawing toolbar by demonstrating how to use the toolbar buttons to create special shapes on a slide, and how the shift key will help you draw perfect shapes. She shows you how to use the formatting tools to change fill color, line styles, and to add 3-D effects.
16 - Basic Text Animation and Sound (Running Time: 4:21)
In this lesson you are introduced to the Custom Animation task pane. We return to the bulleted list created in lesson 6 to add text animation to this slide. Debbie shows you what you can do to make your presentation fun and effective by animating text in a bulleted list to fly onto the slide with a special effect. She shows you how to control the animation, and how to change the color of animated list items. She discusses the appropriate and inappropriate use of sound attached to animation.
17 - Adding Slide Transitions (Running Time: 3:01)
Debbie shows you another animation effect by adding Slide Transitions to the presentation. You will learn how to choose a transition effect from the Slide Transition task pane, how to add a sound effect, and how to preview the transition in your presentation. We'll look at the advantages of using the "Apply to All' button.
18 - Previewing and Testing your Presentation (Running Time: 4:26)
Debbie goes through the steps needed to preview your presentation during and after the creation process. She will show you how to test and review the entire presentation, or check the slides one at a time. She will give you some additional tips on preparing for the live presentation by taking a trial run.
19 - Adding More Media: Background Sound and Video (Running Time: 6:01)
In this lesson we continue the multimedia experience in PowerPoint by adding music and a movie to the presentation. Using the Insert menu, Debbie adds background music from a sound file saved on the hard drive, and shows you how to control how and when the music plays during the presentation. She'll show you how to place a video on a slide, and how to quickly preview the movie playing during the presentation.
20 - Customizing the Way Power Point Works: The Options Menu (Running Time: 5:40)
Here we explore the Options dialog box. We take a look at the various tabs as Debbie explains where to go to further customize the PowerPoint application to meet your needs.
21 - Saving as a Power Point Show (Running Time: 2:23)
You'll learn about PowerPoint Shows, and how and why you would save your file in this format. Debbie demonstrates saving the presentation with the .pps extension, and then reopens the file to show you how to bypass the application window and go directly to slide one of the presentation.
22 - Printing Slides, Handouts, and Notes (Running Time: 4:46)
Debbie talks about the different printing options in PowerPoint. She shows you how to use Print Preview to make sure you are printing what you need. She shows you how to print slides, notes pages, and a variety of handout formats. You'll see how to use the print dialog box to print just one or a range of slides, to print in grayscale to save your color ink, and to print more than one copy.
